DG Hamsa celebrated His Homecoming visit to
St Simons Island Club with Rotary Friends & Family

The Governor’s official Homecoming visit to his own club - St Simons Island - was just in time for Christmas and it was a truly amazing day! Club members finally had the opportunity to Hear directly from Hamsa - about all of his travels and adventures around the District - the goals and early success stories at both District & Club level - and frankly, they had the opportunity to hear their friend of many years speak in a ‘different light’ - - - It was an astounding, joyful meeting in every way!

The Club honored Hamsa’s wife, Dr. Sindu Thota, with an Honorary Membership - and then set about celebrating the success of an amazing Rotary Foundation effort - by awarding 29 new Paul Harris Fellows and 28 new multilevel PHF’s. Of special note the Club awarded a PHF to Oni McCoy, Immediate past president of Rotaract Club at the College of Coastal Georgia (CCGA) for her organizational and leadership success. The Rotaract Club under Oni’s leadership was named the “Club of the Year” at the CCGA In Sum, there were SO MANY PHF awards to give out - that rather than call recipients to the front - - the committee members passed out the awards as recipients were recognized. In addition, the Board is now 100% PHF and Sustaining Members and are100% participants in the Polio Plus Campaign.

Calendar Year-End Update from DG Hamsa:

Dear Rotary Saving Lives with Medicine Taskforce members, and ALL Rotarians:
Thanks to your exemplary work in 2017, we began our pilot test to “Save Lives with Medicine in Georgia” in October. CMAP clinic in Brunswick and Partners for Health clinic in Valdosta are partnering with local Rotary Clubs and MAP International to supply free medicines to indigent patients in four classes of diseases: hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, and asthma.

The clinics in the project serve approximately 1,500 uninsured or underinsured low-income adults, families, and pregnant women.

The goal of this community partnership (Rotary and MAP) is to find a sustainable solution to meet the healthcare needs of people falling through the cracks of the current health system in southeast Georgia.

If you or your club knows of a health clinic in your community which might benefit through a partnership between MAP and Rotary please contact me or your AG.

Milledgeville Club Honored for Local Effort

With the assistance of the Rotary Club of Milledgeville members, Williams Funeral Home, and Eagle Scout Troop 87, and with grant money provided by the Knight Foundation and the Community Foundation of Georgia, the outdoor space in front of the Mary Vinson Memorial Library was transformed

The Rotary Club of Milledgeville has been granted a special honor by the IFSR
(the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians). The IFSR is a Rotary Fellowship promoting service to Youth through Scouting and Guilding. The organization searches (though the internet and other database options) for reports of Rotary-Scout interaction - then commemorates clubs for their service in partnership or furtherance of Scouting - as a way to encourage OTHER Rotary Clubs to promote Scouting. The Milledgeville Rotary Club was ‘discovered’ and recognized with the Youth Service Award simply as a result of an article published in the August 12, 2017, Union-Recorder.
The IFSR is composed of over a thousand Rotarians in 45 countries - identified for their work to promote Scouting and Guilding through their membership in Rotary.
You can learn more at their website: http://ifsr-net.org and on their Facebook page.

Augusta West Rotary Club
LEADS the Spirit of Giving
on Giving Tuesday

Zone 34 Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator Ivan Johnson sent word of GREAT success in District - and other Districts in Zone 34.

Congratulations to the Augusta-West Rotary Club:
the STANDOUT Trailblazer for our Zone!

Here is the note from Ivan:
Hello, District Governors and Rotary Foundation Chairs!

As we wrap up the first half of the Rotary year, I want to send my sincere congratulations to our Zone 34 districts for an outstanding performance on Giving Tuesday. As you know, Giving Tuesday is a day to celebrate generosity and encourage donors to make an online gift to the Rotary Foundation. This year, Zone 34 ranked #2 worldwide! On a single day, 140 donors gave $8,400 to our Foundation!

I am pleased to share that 9 of our 14 districts participated in Giving Tuesday: 6900, 6920, 6940, 6950, 6960, 6970, 6990, 7020 and 7030. In particular, I'd like to recognize District 7020 (the Caribbean) which ranked #3 worldwide with 80 donors who gave on Giving Tuesday. District 7020 will be recognized on My Rotary, along with Districts 7670 (North Carolina) and 7610 (Virginia) for their outstanding show of generosity.

I'd also like to highlight a few outstanding clubs in our Zone that truly embraced the spirit of Giving Tuesday. The following clubs had the highest participation in our Zone and among the highest worldwide:

Augusta-West Rotary Club (D6920 - Georgia): 34 donors
Rotary Club of Eleuthera (D7020 - Bahamas): 27 donors
Rotary Club of Cayes (D7020) - Haiti): 25 donors
Rotary Club of May Pen (D7020 - Jamaica): 24 donors
Thank you for your continued support of our Foundation on Giving Tuesday,
as well as throughout the year.
Here's wishing you and your families a very merry Christmas and a happy 2018!
