Dear Rotarians, Family and friends.
It is an honor and privilege to serve as your District Governor in the 2017 ¡V 18 Rotary year. I learned much about Georgia and the communities we live in. I also witnessed cross-District differences
in prosperity and its impact on club membership. Independent of prosperity, we are people of action. We are a Rotary family - 3115 strong in D6920 and making a differnece every day in south and central Georgia communities! We have much to celebrate and Thank
You!
Our Achievements:
Our 62 Rotary Clubs are enhancing their public image and building Rotary Aareness in tehir communities. Interact & Rotaract Clubs are active and growing in nubmers with increased focus on youth.
Across the District we are making adiffernce through collaborations between Rotary Clubs and Partner orgnaizations such as the MAP International and medical clinics in the saving Lives with Medicine
project. In the Entrepreneurship project, we are supporting the MATE ROV competition, STEM schools, Young Entrepreneur Academies and 3 Day Start Up Program of Georgia Southern University.
Exploring collaboration with Scouts, Future Farmers of America, 4-H, SCORE and Junior Achievement programs to cultivate young leaders and entrepreneurs in Georgia.
Internationally we are making adifference with global grant projects in Brazil, India, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and other countries.
We Planted over 8,000 trees in Claxton, Hinesville, Jekyll Island, Macon, Perry, Reidsville Richmond Hill and Valdosta in response to RI president Ian Riseley¡¦s 1.2 million Tree Challenge.
Our support to the Rotary Foundation remains strong! Year to date we achieved following recognition and endowment measured:
- 280 new PHF, 20 Benefactor, 3 Beequeth Society, 1 Major Donor, 27 PHS members and 777 Sustaining members.
- July 2017- April 2018 total contribution is $337,375 (includes $259,733 Annual Fund giving and $69,242 PolioPlus).
- Year to date, we hae 10 non-giving clubs to the Annual Fund and 20 non-giving clubs to Polio Plus. I encourage all non-giving clubs to support the Foundation. Become part of a legacy - eradicate Polio.
I am¡K. We are ¡K. ROTARY

Focus on CART:
Coins for Alzheimer Research Trust
CART was a very special focus of effort at All Clubs Conference. On Saturday morning - wife of PRID Robert Hall, Charlene Hall,
made an impassioned request for continued, dedicated support of CART - speaking very personally of the toll on both the patient - and the caregiving family members . Roger Ackerman - Co-founder of CART, spoke as well - inspiring
all, and Dr. Allan Levey ¡V Alzheimer Researcher from Emery University gave a fascinating discourse on the frightening prospects of numbers of affected people over the next few decades, the state of current research and

Uganda; 21 Days that Changed My View of the World
by Marion Curry
When my friend and fellow Rotarian, Larry Rhodes, Ph.D. from Eugene, Oregon (Eugene Airport Rotary Club) asked me to travel to Uganda as part of a Rotary
team, I thought it a once in a lifetime opportunity. Little did I know that it would be the beginning of a journey that would grab my heart and imagination. The trip to Uganda was not my first visiting a country deeply challenged by poverty as I had previously
visited Peru. The difference in this trip was¡K MORE

A Party With A Cause: Downtown Macon Rotarians Engage the Entire Community
We can¡¦t resist highlighting a wonderful event of the past 8 years
in Macon. The Macon Beer Fest
is a signature event created and put on by the
Rotary Club of Downtown Macon. The
Macon Beer Fest serves around 60 different craft beers from around the country, but it is also a
party with a cause: a health fair disguised as beer festival for the promotion and education of prostate cancer and the need for testing. Every year at the festival men are offered free PSA blood tests. This past year the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon gave
away about $35,000 in free blood tests. MORE

Milledgeville Rotary Focuses on Clean up at
the Oconee River Greenway.
Milledgeville Rotary joined forces in April with Keep Milledgeville Baldwin Beautiful to participate in a river clean-up at the Oconee River Greenway. Local
support was rallied from various organizations and businesses including the Young Professionals Group and Oconee Outfitters. With feet on the ground and boats in the water, a plethora of attention was paid towards this much loved resource and asset in the
community. The efforts put forth helped raise much needed awareness to the issues lesser advantaged country¡¦s face with unclean water.

Focus on Rotary & Scouting
by Blair Train
Scouting, both Girls and Boys, represents a large segment of the Rotary mission- Service above Self. It is important for girls and boys to have a focus- Scouting gives them that. Rotary¡¦s emphasis
on Youth Entrepreneurship blends extremely well with both Girl and Boy Scouting¡¦s emphasis on leadership. Rotary, Rotaracts, Interacts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts can form a strong collaborative while maintaining their individual brands. Meetings with youth
representatives from each organization can provide a preliminary path for success, and partnerships between Rotary & Scout Troops can promote each organization¡¦s leadership development. (at left is an example of how Rotary Clubs can partner with Scout Troups).

Rotarian Jay Torbert adds his thoughts on Scouting and Rotary:
I appreciate the opportunity to learn and share ideas on this subject. I think there is a natural fit between Scouting and Rotary. For example, my Troop (Troop 248) and
Rotary Club (Golden Isles) have interacted many times in recent years. Since I have been the Scoutmaster for Troop 248, scouts from Troop 248 have volunteered to help with 3 annual Rotary events on St. Simons Island: the Golden Isles Rotary Chili Cook-off;
the St. Simons Rotary McGladrey PGA Tournament¡¦s Meet the Pros Event; and the St. Simons Rotary Taps at Twilight Memorial Day service. Through my involvement in Rotary, I have learned of other opportunities for our scouts to help in the community. For example,
our scouts helped Glynn Visual Arts to prepare a new kids¡¦ outdoor creative/painting area, and my son performed his Eagle Scout project to help Safe harbor Children¡¦s Center in Brunswick. The relationship between these two great international humanitarian
organizations is tremendous.
