DISTRICT GOVERNOR 2009-2010 Clyde A. Taylor A native of Brunswick, Georgia, Clyde was educated in Glynn County Public Schools and graduated from Glynn Academy. He followed in his Dad’s footsteps and attended Georgia Tech where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Industrial Management. While at Georgia Tech, he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and served as a Graduate Instructor in Economics. He met his future wife, Sue Wells, who was a student at Emory University. Clyde was a Distinguished Military Graduate of Georgia Tech and served in the US Army with the rank of Captain. Following graduation, Clyde embarked on a corporate career which involved living in diverse places such as Milwaukee, Saint Louis, Pittsburgh, Le Roy, NY and Birmingham, AL. In Birmingham, Clyde was invited to join the Rotary Club of Alabaster, AL, where he was a member for eight years serving on the Board of Directors. His working career in Birmingham involved the ownership and presidency of an electrical products manufacturer with world wide distribution. While in Birmingham, Clyde was active in Junior Achievement serving as President of the Greater Birmingham organization. In 1988 Clyde and Sue moved to Atlanta and started Eastern Manufacturing Corp., a producer of custom plastic parts. He retains part ownership of this business which is being operated by his son-in-law. In Atlanta, Clyde continued his Rotary involvement as a member of the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs. During his Sandy Springs Rotary membership, Clyde became a Paul Harris Fellow and through the influence of Frank Bentley an avid GRSP supporter. Clyde and Sue retired to St. Simons Island in late 1999 and Clyde was invited to become a member of the Rotary Club of St. Simons Island. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 2001. In 2003-04 he served as President of St. Simons Rotary. Clyde and Sue are both multiple Paul Harris Fellows and Paul Harris Sustaining members. Clyde is also a Will Watt Fellow. They have served as Host Family for GRSP and Group Study Exchange participants. Clyde’s District 6920 activities involve serving as Assistant Governor 2005-07 and GRSP Trustee 2004-07. Clyde and Sue have been married for 49 years. They have three grown children and three grandchildren. Aside from Rotary activities, they are both involved in community and church and are members of Golden Isles Presbyterian Church. They are avid readers and Clyde is a dedicated saltwater fisherman. They enjoy spending time at their home on Seed Lake in Rabun County. |
