		_______________________________________________________SCRAPBOOKS
These scrapbooks were found in the attic
of a former member who was moving and throwing away the attic contents.
They are large and are scanned in parts to make reading easier.
 They show the
lifestyle of the 1950s and and later years
		in the local community.
St. Simons Rotary was a true leader in Island social activities as shown
        by the news articles
 contained in these scrapbooks.

		_______________________________________________________THE "SPRAY" NEWSLETTER
        BEGINNING
When the SPRAY was first published the duty to produce it was
passed from member to member on a weekly or monthly basis. These first
SPRAYs were typed. Later they were sent to a printer in handwritten
form. We now produce the SPRAY on home computers. Here are some early SPRAYs.
In the Jun 21, 1983 edition, Ed Bruce, Treasurer,  retires and GA
        is divided into 3 Districts.

The Governor's Newsletter from April 1955 report St.
Simons Rotary attendance at 94.22%. And the Rotary Foundation goal was
        $10 per member.

			______________________________________________________PROGRAMS
We are proud of our good club programs which we know are
important to all our members. Our club also considered programs
important in it's early days as the program schedule below
demonstrates. Note the variety in the program selections.

			_______________________________________________________CLUB
            ACCOUNTING
The Club Treasurer did all early accounting in a ledger.
Ed Bruce was the Treasurer for 26 years and kept a tight rein on
payments, often meeting non-payees at the door on meeting day. Today
it's a team effort using QuickBooks, Excel and email. Part of Ed Bruce's ledger is shown
below. Note that quarterly dues were $25 to $27.50

            REPORTS
 A number of early budget
reports are available. The one below shows the budget for 1971-1972.
Note that the total budget was about $16k and charity donations were
about $1500 with most of it going to our Club Sholarship program.
